2025 Nollaig na mBan Women’s Leadership Celebration
On the morning of January 8th, Irish American Partnership supporters gathered in Washington DC for the 2025 Nollaig na mBan Women’s Leadership Celebration, honoring Lady Mary Peters.
After a gracious introduction by Ireland’s Ambassador to the United States, Geraldine Byrne Nason, kind remarks delivered by Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon, an inspiring invocation by Rear Admiral Margaret Grun Kibben, and thoughtful words from Director of the Northern Ireland Bureau, Richard Cushnie, Lady Mary was met with an enthusiastic and warm reception.
Lady Mary shared the incredible story of her gold medal win for the pentathlon at the 1972 Munich Olympics. Her triumph not only showcased her incredible skill and determination but also served as a symbol of hope during a period of political tension in her adopted home of Northern Ireland. Lady Mary’s illustrious career reflects her unwavering dedication to the sport and her extraordinary ability to inspire others.
In recognition of our honoree, the Partnership was delighted to present a $10,000 grant to the Mary Peters Trust, which supports young athletes in Northern Ireland, ensuring that future generations have the resources to pursue their dreams.
