The Partnership’s Young Partners network came together on October 1st at the University Club of New York for the annual Speaker Series.
After a lively networking reception, more than 50 supporters were delighted to welcome our speaker, critically-acclaimed actor, producer & playwright Geraldine Hughes.
We were welcomed by Partnership Board Member Brian Ruane and Deputy Consul General Róisín Leonard, who spoke about the strength of the Irish diaspora and meaningful impact of Partnership support in schools and communities across Ireland.
Our speaker Geraldine Hughes reflected on the path that brought her from the Divis Flats in West Belfast to a critically-acclaimed career on stage and screen, and her ongoing advocacy for the next generation of young Irish students. Geraldine shared the impact of her education – first at St. Joseph’s Primary School and later at UCLA – saying,
“The situation you’re born into shouldn’t define your future. Going to school and our wonderful drama department played a huge part in changing my life.”
Young Partners lead Grace Gardiner was delighted to announce a grant of $5,000 to St. Joseph’s Primary School in Belfast in Geraldine’s honor.
