On the morning of January 15th, Irish American Partnership supporters gathered in Boston for the annual Nollaig na mBan Women’s Leadership Celebration, honoring Olympic gold medalist and undisputed lightweight champion of the world, Katie Taylor.
After a gracious introduction by Ireland’s Consul General for New England, Síghle FitzGerald, and a warm invocation by Fr. Frank Daly, Katie was met by a thrilled audience and received a standing ovation.
In conversation with U.S. Ambassador to Ireland Claire Cronin (ret.), Katie shared her inspirational story, from training as a child in her hometown of Bray, to winning gold at the 2012 Olympics, before competing professionally and becoming undisputed lightweight champion of the world.
Katie reflected on her successful campaign to have women’s boxing recognized first in Ireland, and later at the Olympic Games, paving the way for future generations of female athletes.
In recognition of our honoree, the Partnership was delighted to present a $20,000 grant to Tiglin, an organization in Ireland dedicated to restoring lives affected by homelessness, addiction, and social exclusion. This grant honors Katie’s remarkable athletic achievements and continued advocacy for women’s sports.
