The Irish American Partnership is actively recruiting for a detail-oriented and creative individual to fill the position of Communications Associate, Boston. This is a 12-month graduate level J1 – visa role, with direct impact on the organization’s brand and reputation among donors, corporate patrons, media, and other constituents, serving as a trusted member of the Partnership Team. This will be a fulfilling and worthwhile opportunity for the right candidate.
Communications Associate role
Works closely with the Vice President, Communications and External Relations, and other colleagues to enhance and sustain the IAP’s communications efforts to elevate our mission and impact. The successful candidate will possess a strong knowledge of social media platforms, excellent writing and software design skills, a solid understanding of branding, a good eye for merging written and visual communication, and the ability to create and produce new content. They will execute branded social media strategies, generate marketing content for print and digital, manage website experience, and support event marketing needs including branded collateral and overall event experience.
Responsibilities
Marketing Content & Design Delivery – 50%

Developing on-brand material to be distributed via social media, website, newsletters, press releases and any other distribution channels that reflect consistent branding standards and drive philanthropic revenue.

Advance the IAPs editorial/events calendar, coordinating with colleagues and partners to generate ideas, draft content, and manage approvals.

Assist in research, and drafting materials for print and digital media, including IAP site, reports, and newsletters. Contribute to and proof mailings – Impact Reports, and production of Annual Report.

Collaborating with the VP and others in support of all events – to communicate stories of impact, honorees, key sponsors, speakers etc.

Support of all event marketing needs including branded experience, collateral, digital, and social media.

Creating presentations and sponsorship proposals to assist the work of the events team and fundraisers.
Social Media Management – 25%

Execute a social media strategy with an emphasis on audience growth and engagement.

Deliver digital assets across different social media and new media platforms (e.g. videos, tailored graphics).

Generate reports and analytics to grow social media performance.
Outreach & Media Relations – 15%

Expand and maintain media lists, facilitate relationship-building with press contacts and political/community influencers.

Manage weekly monitoring of activity in earned and social media, as well other periodic reports. Monitor and flag news items of interest to VP.

Support the development of media advisories and press releases.
Website Management – 10%

Maintain content experience on the IAP website – including creating and updating written and visual content.

Maintain working knowledge of Search Engine Optimization (SEO), digital marketing, and website design.
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism or related field.

Effective and precise written communication skills, including copy editing and ability to collect and synthesize information in summary reports.

Ability to organize workflow, prioritize and manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, think critically and creatively, and exercise sound judgment.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Canva design software, (Adobe Creative Suite – InDesign also beneficial.)

In-depth knowledge and understanding of social media platforms (LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube) and related tools (Hootsuite etc.)

Website management experience, with preference for direct experience with WordPress and Google Analytics.

Some knowledge of a CRM (Raiser’s Edge preferred)

High level of discretion and ethical approach to fundraising and development.

Ability to work independently, and within a team setting.

Interest in the IAP mission, Irish affairs and the nonprofit landscape.
Conditions of Employment
Candidates must be eligible for the J-1 visa graduate internship program in the United States. The Communications Associate position is a full-time 12-month paid internship opportunity based in Boston, Massachusetts.
