A new chapter begins

Kylemore Abbey

After more than a century of anticipation, the Benedictine Nuns of Kylemore Abbey were blessed to take up residence in their newly constructed Monastery, Education & Retreat Centre in 2024.

Only with the support of many friends and supporters in the US has this dream of a permanent home in Connemara become a reality. The nuns offer their sincere thanks to all who helped to make this historic project a reality.

The Education & Retreat Centre offers people of all faiths – and none – a place to enjoy inspiring lectures, cultural events, and retreats. The Monastery is purpose-built to accommodate a Benedictine community that will grow well into the future.

Enabled by this transformative monastic space, the Benedictine Community now seeks to invigorate spiritual life in Ireland, offering:

  • An engaging schedule of contemplative retreats and presentations for all
  • Events for the wider community, focused on Benedictine values
  • Vocation discernment opportunities, including monastic internships
  • Residential retreats for individuals and groups seeking spiritual renewal
  • Scholarships for those in need of financial assistance for retreat or vocation programs
  • Programs in music, monastic craft, heritage, and archives.

Your support for these initiatives is vitally important and will ensure that Kylemore Abbey’s Benedictine Community continues to play a very special role in Ireland’s spiritual life and cultural history.
