STEM Supplies for a Rural School
Scoil Chroí Ró Naofa, co. Wexford
Proposal
I am a Teaching Principal in a small, rural school in Co. Wexford. Our school comprises of 5 mainstream class teachers and one educational support teacher. We currently have 126 children on our roll book. Most of our children are coming from a farming background and we have worked extremely hard over the past number of years to engage them and their families in education.
For the past number of years we have been focusing on SSE (school self-evaluation) and our subjects of choice has been Science and ICT. Our objectives are:
1. To effectively implement an excellent STEM curriculum in our school.
2. To get our children excited about the STEM subjects and engaged before the transfer to high school.
3. To introduce a ‘hands on’ investigative approach in the STEM subjects.
4. To introduce Coding as part of the STEM curriculum in our school.
Our children love science and are quite competent in critical thinking and problem solving. Unfortunately, given the size of our school and the rural location, we are not in a position to fund the necessary resources and equipment to meet our objectives listed above.
Should we be successful in our application for funding to your organisation, the children in our school would benefit enormously and gain huge insight and experience into the STEM world.
Wishing you all best wishes for 2018.

Maria Brophy
