Welcoming 46th President of the United States
President Joseph R. Biden, Jr.
The Irish American Partnership was proud to welcome 500 friends, supporters, and partners to the InterContinental Boston for our 31st Annual St. Patrick’s Day Breakfast Celebration—a particularly special gathering as we marked our 40th anniversary year.
It was a morning defined by community, connection, and celebration—and one that will long be remembered by all in attendance.

A truly unforgettable moment came as President Joseph R. Biden, Jr., the 46th President of the United States, made a surprise appearance, entering the ballroom to a standing ovation and delivering heartfelt St. Patrick’s Day remarks.
Introduced by United States Ambassador to Ireland, Claire D. Cronin (Ret.), President Biden spoke movingly of heritage, identity, and shared values, reminding us all of the strength of the Irish-American story and the importance of continuing to invest in future generations.
Long known for deep pride in his Irish roots, President Biden chose to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day morning with the Irish American Partnership community in Boston—a wonderful moment for our supporters who strengthen the ties between Ireland and the United States, investing in education and opportunity for young people across the island.
“Coming up Irish American gave me pride that spoke to both sides of the Atlantic. Heart and soul, the truth of the old and the new.”
“On this St. Patrick’s Day, we honor where we came from. Let us not forget and romanticize the visions of the past. Instead, let us remember what’s possible, and recommit ourselves to the unified work that lies ahead,” continued President Biden.
We were also honored to hear from Governor of Massachusetts, the Honorable Maura Healey, United States Ambassador to Ireland, Claire D. Cronin (Ret.), Minister for Foreign Affairs & Trade and Minister for Defense, Helen McEntee, TD, and Dr. Norah Patten, Irish aeronautical engineer and astronaut candidate expected to become the first Irish person to travel to space later this year.
We also watched a special message from 7th President of Ireland Mary Robinson, who applauded Partnership supporters saying, “All I can say is, keep up the good work over the next 40 years!” A beautiful musical performance by Irish tenor Andrew Gavin added to the richness of the morning.
“This breakfast is the Massachusetts-Ireland connection in action. No two places on this earth are separated by 3,000 miles but feel like they’re right next door,” said Governor Maura Healey.
As we reflected on forty years of impact—over $63 million invested in education and community initiatives across Ireland—it was clear that this work is only possible because of the strength and generosity of our community.
To our sponsors—thank you for your steadfast support and belief in our mission. Your partnership enables us to continue investing in opportunity and empowering young people across the island of Ireland. And to our Partnership community of support—your presence brings this community to life and sustains the work we are so proud to carry forward.
“As we celebrate forty years of impact,” said Mary Sugrue, President & CEO, “this gathering reflects the remarkable community that has sustained our mission—people who believe deeply in education, opportunity, and the enduring friendship between Ireland and America.”
We are deeply grateful to all who joined us to celebrate—and we look forward to continuing this journey together.
